Piertro came to WA a while ago and did some diving with BFWA. He’s sent us an update from the Mediterranean.

This is probably the bigger fish I caught this winter: a 5.5kg barracuda (hey don't laugh, barracudas aren't easy to catch here, and  you don't find them this size very often in the Mediterranean). I'm wearing a raincoat over my 7mm wetsuit: the water was freezing below 10m and it was cold outside as well, especially during the first day.

Me and my friend Simone. The Dentex was caught by Simone after a long aspetto,  34m deep.

This is what we had for lunch on the boat: raw lobster, red oysters and triglie with olive oil, pepper and salt. A carbon fin was used as a tray. It's a pity we didn't have a bottle of champagne as well ;-)

Simone was complaining that we had too many guns on the boat... so we took a picture of him holding all the guns

In the evening, would go to the restaurant bringing some of the fish caught during the day. The dinner in the picture: spaghetti  with astice as the first course, and Dentex cooked in the oven as the second course: delicious!

The sea was pretty rough during the last two weeks.

...but nothing can stop us! (this is our boat - the pic was taken by a friend of us) some waves were 5-6m in height, but somehow we managed to come back to the harbour.

About a week ago, we went for another trip to Isola del giglio. The weather was much better, but there wasn't a fish in the whole island! The guy you see on the left (Franco) is a friend of Umberto Pelizzari and one of Italy's best Spearfishers, and Simone (in the middle) is one of his main rivals in Italian spearfishing competitions. Seeing those two guys catching so few fishes is rather unusual!

Well, that's all for now. Let me know what's going on in Australia, and say hello to everyone at the spearfishing club!

 Regards,
 Pietro
